Abstract
Photoacoustic imaging allows molecular and functional imaging in any biological medium. Using exogenous contrasts (typically gold nanoparticles), the quality of the images obtained can be improved, as well as serving as markers of pathophysiological targets for specific visualizations or treatments. In this work we have studied the feasibility of covalent organic networks (nCOFs) as exogenous contrast agents for photoacoustic imaging. For this purpose, the response of two types of nCOFs (TAPB-PDA and LZU-1) has been compared with the current standard. The results obtained point to the two types of nCOFs as very promising contrast agents for photoacoustic imaging due to their satisfactory response and biocompatibility. The use of biocompatible nCOFs will allow obtaining high quality molecular images using high contrast doses and in the absence of side effects.
