Controlling sound
in complex media.

My research connects fundamental wave physics with acoustic engineering and biomedical applications.

Therapeutic ultrasound & acoustic holography

Acoustic holographic lenses shape the phase of an ultrasonic wavefront to produce a desired field. My research explores 3D-printed lenses that compensate for skull aberrations and focus ultrasound on complex targets, alongside methods for measuring and monitoring the resulting fields.

Scientific illustration of ultrasound imaging research

Elastography & molecular imaging

I work on photoacoustic imaging, magnetomotive ultrasound and ultrasound elastography. These techniques combine acoustic measurements with additional physical mechanisms to explore molecular contrast and the elastic and viscoelastic properties of biological tissues.

Simulated transverse pattern of an acoustic Bessel beam

Acoustic vortices & singular beams

I investigate the generation and propagation of acoustic vortex beams and Bessel-like beams using diffraction gratings, passive structures and acoustic metamaterials, including wave propagation at finite amplitude.

Acoustic metamaterial structure

Acoustic metamaterials & phononic structures

My research explores resonant structures, slow sound and dispersion for sound absorption, wavefront control and scattering. It also includes nonlinear wave phenomena in phononic crystals, layered media and lattices.

Numerical grid for acoustic wave simulations

Computational acoustics & elastic waves

I develop numerical methods for acoustic and elastic wave propagation in complex media. These methods consider nonlinear effects, frequency-dependent attenuation, dispersion and heterogeneous material properties, including applications in biomedical ultrasound.

Industrial ultrasound

My work includes ultrasonic characterization of food and vegetable tissues, together with the development of ultrasonic sensors, actuators and transducers for industrial applications in collaboration with the UMIL laboratory at I3M.
