Abstract
In this chapter, we present an overview of techniques and materials for ultrasound wavefront generation, detection, and modulation. We focus the analysis on piezoelectric transducers for biomedical ultrasound imaging and therapy, and the main guidelines for their design are presented. The main ultrasound beam modulation technologies, including classical convex radiators and acoustic lenses, are described. Finally, recent advances in wavefront modulation techniques such as lenses to synthesize vortex beams and acoustic holograms for therapeutic ultrasound applications are presented.
