Abstract
In this chapter we will study the nonlinear behavior of atomic lattices coupled by realistic potentials. Essentially, in this conservative system the dispersion is caused by lattice periodicity, where the nonlinearity appears at the coupling between oscillators following a Coulomb type interaction. Thus, strongly supersonic localized waves can be generated and propagates along the lattice in the form of kinks. With the aim of study a more realistic physical system, we include a model accounting for nuclear repulsion effects that modifes the nonlinear interaction for short interatomic distances. In addition, we propose a substrate potential that modifes the lattice dispersion relation. The physical parameters are those of the K+ ion lattice in a mica muscovite layered silicate.
